Geodroid FAQ
How do I import files?
To import files you currently have two options:
- Save the file to your SD card. You can then import the file using the Import option under Geodroid’s Home tab. Geodroid can also import an entire directory at once. Because of memory constraints, a single large file or a large number of files may not import successfully. The size and number of files you can import at once depends on many factors of your Android device. On a G1, I’ve successfully imported a directory containing over 500 GPX file entries from without problems; yet on a separate occasion, in which I was using another app during the import, Geodroid failed to import all 50 items from a GPX file. Depending on your particular phone and the load you are putting on it, you may be able to successfully import more or less at once.
- Email yourself the file and use the Android browser to visit gmail.com and download them. NOTE: Currently you can not use the native gmail app to download GPX or LOC files from your inbox.
I just downloaded a file from geocaching.com and it won’t work!
You can not use the Android browser (or any browser on the Android OS) to download files directly from geocaching.com. It will appear to download the file, but it contains the wrong data. This is a bug in the Android Browser app and you can track the issue here. The browser will be updated in the future and downloading files on the fly will work. I have no idea how long it will take for the browser issue to be resolved by the Google Android developers.
I just tried to import a file and Geodroid Force Closed!
Please email me a copy of the file you are using. geocaching.com GPX and LOC files are officially supported, but if such a file fails, you’ve likely found a bug and I’ll need a copy of that file in order to fix the problem.
How do I delete or edit a waypoint?
It’s easy! Just go to the list of waypoints (or geocaches) and long press the waypoint you want to edit or delete. You can also delete multiple waypoints at once by selecting Multi Select from the menu.
Geodroid won’t find my location and Google Maps finds it just fine!
This question pops up a lot. Google Maps will often locate you faster because it doesn’t require an accurate fix on your location. Geodroid needs a highly accurate GPS fix on your location to function well and it will often wait until it gets a good fix before performing certain tasks.
Why are my coordinates rounded down when I add/edit a waypoint?
A recent update uses a new library for converting GPS coordinates. Accuracy is to a minimum of six significant digits in Degree Decimal format.
Geodroid Force Closes when I …
Please email me about any force closes you experience and how to make it force close. I can’t fix it if I don’t know it’s broken
